The Australian Government has implemented the Overseas Student Program ( OSP ) for many years. Under this program, all overseas students are welcome to study in Australia. To apply for a student visa, you are required to enrol in a full time course registered in the Department of Education which allows the education provider to deliver courses to overseas students.

The new streamlined Student Visa subclass 500 has replaced the old student visa system on 1 July 2016 and is designed to make student visa applications more straightforward. Research Master: : 

  • This type of course allows students to focus on a particular topic in-depth and independently, to complete a single large research project.Generally, it takes 18 months to 3 years to complete.
  • Doctoral degree: It is designed for professionals with rich experience in a certain field to continue to improve their professional knowledge, or it is suitable for assisting scholars to do the most cutting-edge research in various fields. Generally, it takes 2 to 4 years to complete.。

English requirement:

  • Academic IELTS 6.5 or equivalent English score is generally required. Each university will vary depending on the major.
  •  On the other hand, for student visa applications, the English requirement depends on the institution you are enrolled in and the country of issue of your passport.

For financial capacity requirements, depending on your country of origin and the institution you are enrolled in, you need to have enough money that is genuinely available to you to pay for your course fees, travel and living costs for you and your accompanying family members while you are in Australia.

Post Study Work Visa ( PSW ):

Validity: 3 - 4 years

Work limit: PSW visa holder is allowed to work no more than 40 hours per fortnight. No limit for spouse/partner ( holding student dependent visa )

Bachelor:

  • Completing following: Year 12 or equivalent, Foundation Program or Diploma courses;
  • Duration 3 - 4 years

Master by coursework:

  • Completing following: bachelor degree
  • Duration: 1-2 years

English Proficiency:

  • Different universities have different requirements on English proficiency according to the field of study. In general, it requires IELTS 6.5 or equivalent

This is suitable for those who pursue acquiring a skill and a diploma in a particular field. After completing a diploma, students can move on to study in higher education. There is a possibility to receive a one year exemption of study. Vocational education and training providers offer courses from Certificate III to Advanced Diplomas, in a wide range of fields.

This is another pathway for overseas students who do not meet the entry requirement of a bachelor program in an Australian university.

Minimum entry requirement :Completed year 11 or equivalent, Course duration: 12-16 Months to those completed year 11 or equivalent 9-12 months to those completed year 12 or equivalent

IELTS: minimum 5.5

 If the IELTS result is below 5.5, you are required to study English course for 10 to 15 weeks

It varies according to the school you applied to and the issuing country of your passport like a financial statement. If there is no specific requirement, a declaration would be sufficient. The Department of Home Affairs requires applicants to have sufficient funds for his first year of living expenses.

In Australia, all students between the ages of 6 and 15 must receive compulsory education. After completing year 10, students can choose to university entrance exam. There are government and non-government schools(including faith-based schools such as Catholic or Islamic schools) and schools based on educational philosophies such as Montessori and Steiner.) Many schools do provide boarding services for students

Age requirement:

  • Primary school: from 6 years old or older
  • Year 10: 18 years old or younger
  • Year 11: 19 years old or younger
  • Year 12: 20 years old or younger

To study in senior high school(year 11 and 12), the duration of study must not be less than 16 months . Therefore, the latest commencement of the senior high education must be the third semester of year 11 ( July ) . However, under normal circumstances, transfer between schools is not allowed during year 11.High school students in Australia are not allowed to skip a year of study but are allowed to repeat the year that you are studying overseas.

English Proficiency Requirement:

IELTS (Academic) 5 to 5.5 or equivalent. If the result is not satisfactory, ,the majority of the high schools do accept students from the High School Preparation program which lasts for a minimum of 20 weeks of study and prepares students successfully to improve English Language and study skills. Besides, more and more schools accept AEAS as the assessment test. There are some schools do not require any English assessment by offering english course. However, students are still required to demonstrate they achieved a minimum of 75% in junior high school English proficiency and high school language results.
